Hi! I’m Corea Kim, and I am a second year at the University of California, Los Angeles, pursuing a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Cognitive Science with a minor in European Studies. As Financial Supports Commissioner, I committed to expanding access to essential resources, increasing transparency in student fee allocation, and developing programs that reduce financial barriers for UCLA students. Some projects and initiatives include the development of a financial transparency viewer, a free lab coat rental program, commuter parking scholarship, and free laundry products  

Officer-Specific Platforms

• Investing in Student Organizations

  • Expanding FSC’s funding office hours to ensure all questions and concerns are addressed

  • Work with the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor to widen access and funding opportunities to allow more student organizations to hold events in UCLA buildings and facilities

• Scaling Financial Transparency

  • Collaborate with USAC’s Finance Committee (FiCom), Student Government Services (SGS), and Student Government Accounting (SGA) offices to create more rigid spending and budgeting guidelines for all USAC offices

  • Ensuring student fees are only spent to the direct benefits and material needs of the general student body

  • Developing a more democratic system for monitoring the impacts of student aggregated fees by uploading a database of all USAC offices’ budgets and expenditures

• Delivering Financial Support

  • Increase funding and provide more digestible guidelines to student organizations to streamline the traditionally complicated process of funding applications

  • Serve as a liaison between UCLA administration and the leadership of Mother Organizations and Basic Needs Centers

  • Working closely with FSC’s appointment to Campus Retention Committee to safeguard funding for the Community Programs Office (CPO)

  • Expand FSC’s financial services that include free quarterly lab coat rentals, free laundry supplies on the Hill, and commuter parking permit scholarships

• Increasing Access to Financial Services

  • Centralize all UCLA financial resources into a consolidated digital access network that USAC and student organizations can refer to for financial matters

  • Partner with the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT) and other financial services to provide fiscal support to programs enduring budget cuts

  • Work with the Financial Aid Office and the Center for Scholarships & Scholar Enrichment to improve access to financial aid and support students throughout the federal aid process

• Internal Campus Improvement

  • Hold regular town hall meetings to encourage the democratization of financial allocation and programming

  • Increase resources and funding allocations to mental health and psychological services like CAPS and CARE

  • Initiate new programs to support underserved groups on campus (i.e., unhoused students, transfer students, etc.)

What is the financial supports commissioner?

• The Financial Supports Commissioner oversees the general body and operations of the Financial Supports Commission, whose job is to improve financial accessibility and transparency for UCLA students by developing programs and resources that address everyday student expenses. Additionally, the FSC oversees initiatives that help students reduce out-of-pocket costs while also promoting accountability in the use of student funds.
