Welcome! My name is Jayha Buhs-Jackson and I serve as the President on USAC.
Officer-Specific Platforms & Objectives
Union and Student Solidarity
Conduct outreach with student and worker union networks
Advocate for student workers’ rights
Establish a systemwide UC student worker coalition
Increase connectivity between ASUCLA leadership and student workers
Student Community & Safety
Enforcement of an official anti-hate crime policy to institutionalize a systemwide crackdown on identity-based discrimination
Organizing Time Place & Manner (TPM) educational forums to increase awareness on student rights and security enforcements
Preserving the the institutional integrity surrounding intellectual freedom and freedom of speech
Strategic Partnership and Engagement
Conducting outreach with local Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) institutions
Solidifying resources & internship opportunities for students across campus
Advocating for institutional policy and financial investment transparency
Diversifying USAC
Scaling campus-wide USAC literacy to facilitate a more democratic student governance landscape
Encourage equitable hiring processes & representation for marginalized student groups
What is the president
The UCLA Student Body President is elected each year under their platforms and, with the additional responsibility to serve the general undergraduate student body of UCLA as the official representative of UCLA’s Undergraduate Student Association. This includes representing the interests of the general student population, initiating and pursuing legislation, and maintaining communication with student organizations, ASUCLA Board of Directors, UC Office of the President and more. The President also has standing members of various committees including Campus Safety Advisor Board, Police Accountability Board and Council Of Presidents. Additional responsibility of the president is to carry executive functions of USAC, exercise budgetary veto when applicable and carry out the Seat at the Table Initiative weekly.
