Hello! My name is Maya Gheewala and I am a third-year Public Affairs and Statistics and Data Science double major. The Community Service Commission (CSC) is UCLA's hub for student-led service. As a Commission, we serve as an umbrella organization for over 30 service organizations on campus, supporting them with resources like funding, transportation, and office space to help them achieve their respective missions. Additionally, we plan large-scale service events on campus including Volunteer Day, Non-Profit Networking Night, Alternative Breaks, and Service Impact Summit to engage all UCLA students in service. Going into my fourth year in CSC, I bring experience as an intern and Coalitions Director, working with both the Student Coalition for Basic Needs and Youth Empowerment Coalition. Outside of academics and CSC, I love water sports, board games, and baking.

Over the past three years in CSC, I’ve worked closely with student organizations, coalitions, and leaders across campus to plan events, support advocacy efforts, and build collaborations. Through this experience, I’ve seen both the impact of service at UCLA and the areas where we can better support students and organizations.

What is the Community Service Commissioner?

  • The CSC commissioner is responsible for representing the service community at USAC meetings. Additionally, the CSC commissioner hosts weekly meetings for CSC staff while hosting bi-weekly general meetings for the logistics of CSC projects. The CSC commissioner appoints and oversees members on the Community Service Transportation Fund and Supplemental Fund for Service, which are funding entities that allocate money directly to service organizations across campus. In addition to these funding bodies, the CSC commissioner also sits on various committees that oversee the allocation of critical campus resources.
